This study reports the first step in the Classification-based Search and Knowledge Discovery (CSKD) project, which aims to combine information organization and retrieval approaches for building digital library applications. In this study, we explored the generation and application of a faceted vocabulary as a potential mechanism to enhance knowledge discovery. The faceted vocabulary construction process revealed some heuristics that can be refined in follow-up studies to further automate the creation of faceted classification structure, while our concept search application demonstrated the utility and potential of integrating classification-based approach with retrieval-based approach. Integration of text- and classification-based methods as outlined in this paper combines the strengths of two vastly different approaches to information discovery by constructing and utilizing a flexible information organization scheme from an existing classification structure.
The purpose of this study is to analyze academic research trends of the library management in Korea. The major aim of this study is to discuss the possibility whether the merging of Information Literacy and rhetoric will be able to have essential elements for being a general education subject in universities. The characteristic of rhetorical information literacy (RIL) is organized as follows. Situated literacy using heuristic method, process oriented literacy attaching importance to research, and literacy relevant to ubiquitous environment. So, it is argued that rhetorical information literate citizenry is essential for a modern democratic society. As the information literacy instruction program can be various, for example, technology oriented instruction is needed to be compared. For the practical execution of the RILI program, ‘asking situated questions to discover problem’, ‘selecting and writing review of meta study books’, and ‘writing visiting report of library’, and ‘instruction of information ethics for democratic citizens’ have been proposed.
This study aims at examining the ways which a school librarian uses SNS when performing tasks and the use of SNS with the features of the task and the organizational system run by one person affect task performance. In this study, for objective explanation of the interrelation among a librarian’s tasks and the use of SNS and performance, the model of a Librarian’s Task-SNS Technology Fit was suggested through the combination of the Technology Acceptance Model and the Task-Technology Fit. Based on the result of the survey analysis, their utilization of SNS is not just limited to personal taste nor interferes with their work. Rather, it enhances task performance owing to the characteristics of the tasks or the organization such as the organizational system run by one person.
Although social metadata has strengths in creating amount of user-contributed resource descriptions, its function is limited because of its non-systematic characteristics. This research proposed an alternative approach to semantic organization of social metadata. It analyzed the semantics of tags created in LibraryThing in order to provide bibliographic categories for describing information resources. Social information Architecture is adopted in generating the bibliographic categories so that social metadata framework can be constructed. This framework can provide the conceptual foundations for semantically organizing social metadata and is expected to be applied to the existing approaches to automatically organize social metadata.
The purpose of this study is to understand the value of the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee as the most favored ‘One Book’ and the goals of the ‘One Book, One City’ programs which selected this particular book. With this book, many communities discussed the sympathy toward the dignity of human being with such subjects as courage, justice, and integrity, and presented its value through book discussions, various programs and events.
The aim of this study was to suggest a classification system adapted to provide policy information services. For this purpose, this study completed the following processes; BRM taxonomy analysis, document analysis, analysis of classification systems providing policy information, consulting classification experts, surveys and interviews with policy information consumers, and an empirical validation process through the actual construction of policy information materials. Finally, this study complemented and modified the BRM taxonomy system and proposed a classification system appropriate to policy information resources. Through the procedures of experts discussion, the steps of BRM analysis appropriate to provide policy information services is determined as three steps. The domestic institute websites for policy information services has confirmed the appropriateness of the BRM taxonomy system through the analysis system and service research to provide policy information resources. Also through the specialist interview, the confirmation of BRM and the improvement has been drawn. Through the questionaires, the study analyzes the appropriateness of available BRM taxonomy system and the requirements by subjects. And through the empirical verificaion, it determines the subject of BRM taxonomy system for policy information services.

Thise study focuses on the direction to the revisions of copyright law in Korea, so that orphan works in libraries can be used more widely on the Internet. In particular, this study analyzes the problems of the provisions 31 and 50 in the copyright law related to the mass digitations of orphan works in libraries. This study also reviews the Directive 2012/28/EU, 3 orphan works bills in USA, and provisions related to the orphan works in The Enterprise and Regulatory Reform(ERR) Act 2013 in UK. Finally this study suggests the 3 directions to support mass digitations of orphan works in libraries. First, digitized orphan works in libraries are to be made a transmission to the public on the Internet; Second, compensation and approval fees are not required or minimized; and third, libraries have to stop the use of the orphan works if copyright owners require. If not, libraries have to negotiate with the copyright owners about the fees necessary.
The purpose of this study is to examine for redefining the concept of literacy in Library and Information Science research field and in public library services. For the purpose, literature review, bibliometric analysis and case study were conducted. Based on the results, this study proposed the concept of literacy as “a comprehensive ability to use a medium, information and knowledge for solving the problems people faces in order to understand particular subjects or situations they are in” and the concept of literacy service as “the services or programs offered by public libraries in order to develop their patrons’ literacies.” This research also suggests four new literacy service concepts for public library services: early literacy service, adult literacy service, digital literacy service, information literacy service.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance and validity of the unified policy of the administrative system for the public library through the analysis and evaluation of the outcomes and plans about the policy on the first and second Comprehensive Library Advancement Plan. In addition, this study seeks to the strategies for the public library administrative system unification by reviewing the issue details of the unification strategies. The first Comprehensive Library Advancement Plan was found to be just proclamatory without concrete and practical results through its performance analysis. The policy tasks were evaluated to lack in feasibility and specificity in the second Comprehensive Library Advancement Plan which was performed on a group of library professionals. Policy decision to determine who would be responsible for the unification into the local government was found to be valid by the results of previous research findings, policy evaluation by experts and in-depth interview survey for field practitioners. Substantial and detailed action-oriented strategy rather than bluffing and macro policy is necessary for the unification of the library administrative system. It is because we have found there exist significant issues in terms of unified approach, structure of the organization, personnel transfer and grade adjustment, property transfer, etc. through the analysis.

A relationship among members factor has full mediation effect on the relationship between published knowledge sourcing and knowledge reuse, and relationship between published knowledge sourcing and knowledge innovation. Third, the results of in-depth interview show that learners trust and easily collect knowledge from social network services in general. Also, they get a variety of idea for solving information problem from interaction among members in social learning community.
The purpose of this study is to analyse the meaning and lexical morpheme of author keywords of humanities, social sciences, and art and sport in the Korea Ciation Index (KCI) and to propose a conceptual taxonomy of the author keywords. Four top-level concept categories such as ‘Substance, Abstraction, General/Common, and Object’ are replaced by seven more concrete categories such as ‘object, action/function, property, theory/method, format/framework, general/common, and Instance’. In the middle and lower-level concept categories, the hierarchical structure is simplified and the unbalance of term distribution is reduced by creating, subdivision, integration, elimination, and movement of the categories. The result of the test based on the STNet shows that the replaced taxonomy of concept categories has the effects of making the term allocation more balanced and properties of terms more detailed.
