이 논문은 신자유주의화 과정의 맥락적 의존성을 강조하는 입장에 서서, 어떻게 신자유주의적 재편의 과정이 아시아 발전주의 국가의 경로 의존적 특성에 의해 규 정받는 상황 속에서 실재적으로 일어나는지를 살펴본다. 특히, 한국의 경제자유구 역과 말레이시아의 ‘멀티미디어 대회랑’에 대한 경험적 연구를 통해, 발전주의 국 가의 제도적·정치적 유산과 신자유주의적 재구조화 프로젝트 사이에 발생하는 정 치적 긴장과 갈등이 어떻게 ‘공간 선택적 자유화(spatially selective liberalization)’ 를 통해 공간적으로 매개되는지를 탐구한다. 이 경험 연구를 바탕으로 필자는 아 시아 발전주의 국가들이 신자유주의화의 공간적 과정과 관련하여 보여주는 일반 적 경향성을 도출하고자 한다.
