Abstract

Analyzing Korean dramas from a feminism has gotten good result. But it has still limits in selecting that kind of plays and playwrights. It is ripe for widening the breadth of such studies. Choi In-Hoon takes a important position in the history of Korean modern dramas and studies for him is accumulated. However, studies from feminism is rare. Especially Lullaby for Two Siblings is a short poetic play which has least interest among Choi’s plays. It’s origin is fork tale ‘siblings becoming sun and moon’. In this play, mother gives her two children to a tiger and runs away, so the siblings fall a prey to tiger. But the siblings open sleeping tiger’s mouth and escape there going across creeks and uphills. They arrive home. Mother is there with a tiger. Two children glance furtively at mother who changes slowly into another tiger. So they run away and two tigers chase them. Children wonder whether their mother deserves a good rope. They keep running. They keep dreaming this kind of nightmare and their mother takes care of them. This play shows the motive of ‘Terrible Mother’ which overthrows general conception for motherhood. This motive becomes the basis of unconscious imagination in this play. It also has a mode given much weight in silence and omission, which dissolves general dramaturgy.
