A Study on Cafe-girl in the 1930's Novel-On the Yi, Sang(李箱)'s Viewpoint of Woman

Abstract

The purpose of this Thesis is to find Yi, Sang's viewpoint of woman with cafe-girl who enters on novel. Those days, cafe-girl who appears along with cafe' appearance is the representative of modern culture. They have two characteristics. First, they have a job that is remarkable for self-control. Second, on living with a loafer intelligentsia they divide spirit from body. They maintain their family or a loafer intelligentsia with prostitution after closing time. Although they exhaust their physic in moneymaking, spirit that is divided from body seeks for intelligence on living with a loafer intelligentsia. Cafe-girl who enters on Yi, Sang's novel also has these two characteristics, and Simultaneously they are contemporary characteristic. By analysis of Yi, Sang's novel that is entered Cafe-girl and a prostitution we can find Yi, Sang's viewpoint of woman, that they have having an ability to do social life and the factor of prostitution. These Yi, Sang's viewpoint of woman points out the need of woman' job and their difficulty at the time.
