안과 밖의 마이너 필링스 ： 한국계 미국인 서사의 유통과 소수적 감성의 재배치
The Inside and Outside of Minor Feelings : The Distribution and Restructuring of Minor Feelings in Narrative Works by Korean Americans

초록
본고는 캐시 박 홍의 개념 ‘소수적 감정 (minor feelings)’을 바탕으로 최근 한국과 미국에서 활발한 담론을 끌어낸 한국계 미국인 서사를 분석한다. 먼저 ‘소수적 감정’을 멈추어 있거나 결정화된 감정이 아니라 여러 경계의 안과 밖을 넘나드는 움직임 속에서 다른 방식으로 맥락화되는 동적인 개념으로 이해해야 함을 주장하며, 한국계 미국인의 서사의 소수적 감정이 미국과 한국 사회라는 경계의 안과 밖에서 어떻게 번역되어 소비되며 새롭게 위치 지어지는지, 그 과정을 검토한다. 2021년 리 아이삭 정 감독의 영화 「미나리」를 통해 소수적 감정이 어떻게 젠더화되어 나타나며, 그중 어떤 소수적 감정이 서사화되는지 분석하고, 이와 함께 한국과 미국에서 이 영화가 소비되는 과정에서 소수적 감정이 재배치되는 과정을 비판적으로 검토한다. 더불어 민진 리의 2017년 소설 『파친코』에서 한국계 미국인과 재일조선인의 소수적 감정이 연결되고 단절되는 지점을 분석한다. 이처럼 ‘소수적 감정’이 국가와 문화의 경계를 넘어 서로 다른 맥락에서 재배치되는 과정을 비판적으로 분석하면서, 본고는 한국의 문화적 자장 안에서 캐시 박 홍이 제시한 ‘소수적 감정’이라는 개념을 비판적이고도 생산적인 방식으로 논의할 가능성을 모색한다.

Abstract
This article analyzes the concept of "minor feelings" coined by Cathy Park Hong in her 2020 book Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning, which generated passionate discussions in the United States and South Korea. On this basis, the article examines the minor feelings embodied in recent cultural narratives produced by Korean American authors. It argues that these "minor feelings" are not static or monolithic emotions but dynamic ones that are being constantly recontextualized as they cross cultural and national borders according to respectable society's different racial hierarchies. The essay first analyzes Lee Issac Chung's 2021 film Minari, exploring how minor feelings are gendered and which minor feelings are narrativized. The paper also analyzes how they are re-situated during the process of the transnational distribution of the film. In addition, the article also examines Min Jin Lee's 2017 novel Pachinko and questions how the minor feelings of Korean Americans and Zainichi Koreans are connected and disconnected in the narrative. By critically attending to the recent accolades of Korean American cultural products, this article aims to generate a productive discussion over the idea of "minor feelings" within and beyond the cultural boundaries of the United States and South Korea.
