Abstract

In this study, items for Korean-Stress Index for Parents of Adolescents(K-SIPA) were reduced and psychometric properties were examined. Data used in this study were collected from the K-SIPA standardization study(942 parents with children aged from 11 to 19). Items for K-SIPA short form(K-SIPA-SF) were selected on the basis of the results from the exploratory factor analysis(EFA) conducted in randomly extracted sample(N=471). The remaining half of the data(N=471) were used to perform confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) and to test reliability and validity. To verify the reliability, internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined, while the validity was verified with the following methods. First, the correlation with K-SIPA, Parental Confidence Questionnaire, SF-36, PHQ-9, GAD-7, K-CBCL 6-18 was examined to verify concurrent validity. Convergence validity was verified by correlation among sub-factors and total stress scores of K-SIPA-SF. The difference of parenting stress level was examined between parents of children diagnosed with mental illness and of typically developing children to verify discrimination validity. EFA revealed three distinct factors consisted of 37 items, and each factor was named ‘Social Adaptation of Adolescents,’ ‘Parental Distress,’ and ‘Emotional Adaptation of Adolescents.’ The goodness of fit indices of K-SIPA-SF was shown to be moderate, and all the reliability and validity were secured. The results confirm that K-SIPA-SF could be a reliable and valid tool to measure parenting stress for parents of adolescents in Korea. Further implications and limitations of this study were discussed.

Abstract

This study is a follow-up study of the Korean version of the Bright and Dark Personality Inventory (BDPI), which was studied by Lee et al. (2019). Data collected from The total of 1,059 adults was used for this study. The correlation between general personality factors, which measures general personality traits, and maladaptative personality factors, which measures dysfunctional personality adaptation were low, indicating that general personality and maladaptative personality were independent. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability of general personality and maladaptative personality were relatively high. The confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated the 5 factor measurement model of general personaltiy factors and maladaptative personality factors, respectively and provided acceptable goodness of fit indices. General personality was properly converged and discriminated with Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Personality Inventory for DSM-5 Short Form (PID-5-SF). Maladaptative personality was overall converged with PID-5-SF, however, it was not discriminated within PID-5 SF sub-factors. The prediction validity was confirmed by regression of BDPI factors on the SAPAS-SR. Finally, limitations and implications for future research are described.

Abstract

This study analyzed focus group interviews conducted with 17 participants with various gender identities and sexual orientations based on the Struggle for Recognition theory of the social philosopher Axel Honneth. By this the aim was to seek the aspects of hate violence against sexual minorities and the result of this oppression, and to explore alternative solutions overcoming hate. Analysis revealed 59 sub-themes, 15 themes, and three categories. Categories were, “genocide of existence”, “drifting displacement: alienation from dignity”, and “struggle for recognition: expansion of dignity realization through solidarity”. Honneth’s theory appeared in that sexual minorities experienced psycho-social death of existence and damage in dignity from hate violence, however, became motivated fueled by barriers, covering, and alienation, to reveal themselves in mutual recognition of solidarity for realizing diversity which in result may lead to the moral development of the society. By this hate-base violence was redefined, and further, praxis for mutual recognition and competency as a psychologist to recognize diversity including sexual minorities as to contribute to human dignity realization were suggested.

Abstract

There have been growing concerns about child abuse and neglect in Korea, which has prompted the government to develop various measures to prevent or reduce them. However, few of the programs can be characterized as evidence-based and it has been difficult to evaluate efficacy or effectiveness of the programs. The purpose of the present study was to review 'evidence-based' prevention and intervention programs that have been rated as effective by several clearinghouses in preventing and/or reducing child abuse and neglect in the US. The present study also reviewed 3 programs that were aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect and published in Korea between 1999 to 2018. Drawn upon the discussions of these programs in the US and Korea, we made recommendations for future research to promote the development and implementation of evidence-based programs that are aimed to prevent child abuse and neglect in Korea.

Abstract

This study applied the Topic Modeling method, one of the text mining techniques, to analyze the text describing the shortcomings(unsatisfactory factors) of the company in the corporate review of the recruitment platform and to analyze whether there are meaningful differences in text contents bettween the stayers and the leavers. Specifically, following the procedures proposed by Schmidel et al.(2019), we analyzed the texts describing the company's shortcomings by former and incumbent employees in the ICT sector in South Korea and derived 50 topics through Topic Modeling. 44 of the 50 topics judged to be most appropriate were labeded by referring to domestic and international research results on job attitude and predictors of turnover, and the highest percentage of topic among them was 'low salary'. Among the 44 topics, significant differences were identified between stayers and leavers. In addition, the extracted topics were similar to the variables that were important in the existing job satisfaction and turnover studies, but there were also new ones. Finally, the potential of text mining methods in the field of organizational psychology as a new approach was discussed.
