Abstract

Kim Meongsun is a well known writer of early modern women in Korea. She acted as a poet and novelist, and she also performed dramatization while publishing two dramas. Stepchild and Two Lover as her dramatic works are not only meaningful as works of female artists. These two works imply the expression of a unique male character that was ignored by early male playwrights. The male figure in her plays can be classified as extreme. One male image is a male image as an opponent who harasses women and hampers legitimacy, and the other male image is a male image as an advocate for protecting and loving women unconditionally. The creation of such a male image reflects the eager and contradictory psychology inside the artist, and is manifested in the deepening and internalization of the heroine's internal conflict within the work.
