Abstract

In information age, information problems are continuously differentiated either in individual or in social domain. The danger of reality lost is also day by day increased by digital media and the changes happen at too fast pace. Form the dialect point of view, the education of information literacy is a very important cultural media to arbitrate the conflict between the reasonable solution of the individual information problem and the social information problem. This study is an attempt to discuss the macroscopic initiative of educational system and information ethics on the basis of the dialectic interpretation of the cultural discourse of the information literacy.

Abstract

In this research, we have identified problems and countermeasures when school library provides information literacy service in liaison with school curriculum. The problems were misunderstanding information literacy as ICT skills, lack of books and librarians, and etc. So we emphasize importance of library and information in information literacy. And for countermeasures, we provide online guide to library resources, ‘BIG6 problem solving model’ for information literacy teaching-learning, teaching-learning plans for information literacy, formats for teaching-learning process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest the construct model of teaching competency in teacher librarian. For this purpose, this study compares and analysis the existing literature of which teaching competency of subject teacher and teacher librarian competency standard. The teaching competency model of teacher librarian was designed with the result of compares and analysis. The suggested model composed of 3 process: ① instructional design, ② instruction implementation, ③ instruction evaluation. It is also suggested that construct of isolated instruction and cooperative instruction. This study can be helpful to development a in-service program of teacher librarian and curriculum of Teacher librarian education.

Abstract

The types of information literacy in school library is classified into usage instruction of school library, reading education, instructional development of courseware with school library and integrated instruction of collaboration with school librarian and teacher. A measure of scholastic achievement on information literacy varies in each school. The cause is rely on the absence of librarians who teach information literacy and lack of understanding on the role of school library in information literacy. Nevertheless, we know that the program based on subject teacher is successful in terms of the effectiveness of the program. It demonstrate that if information literacy will be considered as important course in the curriculum for school librarian, the effectiveness of information literacy can be enhanced dramatically. For the purpose some strategies are required. In this paper, propose three strategies, which are integration of information literacy into curriculum of schools, analysis of the curriculums and a practical method for training school librarian.

Abstract

The School Library Instruction(SLI) is one of the tool subjects for information literacy. Therefore, the connection with school curricula is the activation strategy of SLI. The school library Integrated curriculum is integrating a thinking strategy of SLI and subjects of subject education curricula. The purpose of the school library Integrated curriculum is to strengthen the educational role of teacher- librarian and self-directed learning. In this study, a presented example of the school library Integrated curriculum for the 10th students is based on the cross-curriculum subjects as a strategy of connection and integration.

Abstract

This study examines the web-based education which is changing the educational paradigm itself according to the development of IT and the spread of Internet in the IT society and the information literacy which have been emerging as survival techniques. Based on Technology Acceptance Model that provides useful theoretical foundations for analyzing the factors influencing acceptance IT, it determined the factors influencing of accepting the information literacy instruction as follows: perceived usefulness; perceived ease of use; connectivity; reactivity of web-based education; job relevance; university library' support; ACRL standards and effects of the information literacy instruction. This paper confirmed the influences of these factors of accepting the web-based information literacy instruction through empirical study. I have suggested factors affecting the acceptance of web-based information literacy instruction by conducting positive researches on how these factors influence the acceptance of web-based information literacy instruction of university libraries.

Abstract

In this study, the information literacy educational program currently used by Korean universities was applied to foreign ones and its educational effect was analyzed and their degree of satisfaction and demands were understood. As a result, the educational effect was shown, but the average knowledge of academic information used still remained low, but the satisfaction degree of education for information literacy was high, which means that such education is absolutely needed for foreign students. The analyzed results and contents carried out in the experiment will be very helpful for designing a differentiated information literacy educational program for foreign students.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the activities of public libraries in Korea about information divide issues. To do this, the web sites of 58 public libraries in Korea were investigated. On the basis of analysis, this study concluded that the activities of public libraries did not assist information have-nots, for example, people with disabilities, older adults, immigrants, rural residents and low income brackets and were insufficient to related guidelines of library services.

The purpose of this study is to investigate application of information literacy education. Lifelong education program that accomplishes local information center lifelong education center assigned among public libraries is surveyed and analyzed by e-learning and off-line program. Abstract

From all nations the disabled person experiences many difficulties from the process which obtain informations and use libraries. So the advanced nations is concentrating on establishment of the information gap solution policy for the disabled person. Based on these situations, this research analyzed the national library service policies for the disabled person in the United States and the United Kingdom and Japan, and proposed desirable position and operation plans of the disabled person library support center of the National Library of Korea.

Back-of-book-style indexes have a similar function as back-of-book indexes. The best advantage of back-of-book-style indexes for information access on the web is to give direct access to specific subjects of interest. Though back-of-book-style indexes are alphabetically arranged as back-of-book indexes, they have linked index entries to contents on the site by using a anchor tag of HTML. In this research, I have created back-of-book-style indexes in two separated ways, by hand-crafted and semi-automatic indexing. We have utilized back-of-book-style indexes, that is similar to back-of-book index of traditional information organization method of library and information science, in library circumstances.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to compare the present education for information professionals in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It is intended to find out how the differences in the professional organization's role on the education and the educational institution‘s status of the two countries influence on the professional education. The research was done through the reviews of literature searched and the analyses of the data on the web-based home pages of the institutions concerned. It is concluded that the differences have caused the different educational patterns of the countries. The similarities and differences are interpreted and some suggestions are provided.

This study investigates both arbitrariness and misrepresentation in the terminology of Korea's LIS field with an example of the term ‘information services.' The focus is on analyzing the differences in the Term's history and theoretical base between American LIS field and Korea's. Discussed in details are the popularity and usage of the Term in Korea's LIS field and libraries. The ultimate intention of this study is to motivate the Korea's LIS scholars to endeavor for theoretical accomplishments with regard to ‘information services,' which can justify the change of term from ‘reference services' to ‘information services.'

Abstract

This paper aims to present a brief overview of consortia' initiatives that have been taking place at national and international level. The developed countries witnessed the progressive growth of consortia initiatives; on the other hand, the situation is not encouraging in developing countries like India. Therefore in this paper an attempt has been made to trace the current developments in consortia awareness in Engineering Educational Institutions. For this purpose, a survey of Engineering Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu has been considered to measure the consortia awareness and also the attitude towards joining any consortia. Based on the results of the survey a model consortium has been proposed for the Engineering Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu.

Abstract

I purposed to identify the relationship between the constructivism and the school library in this study. This study was done on the contexts, concepts and characters of constructivism and constructivism's learning method. And also it was done on the role of school library and media specialist, especially on the information literacy education. Finally I suggested it in this study that constructivism's learning method can be completed effectively through the school library and information literacy education.

Abstract

This study surveyed the online catalog retrieval systems of the university libraries in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam districts. The types of library materials, and the kinds of access points and retrieval conditions(Boolean logic, methods of index term identification, and particularities of the retrieval) of these systems are various and different to each other. Upon the result of this survey a suggestion for the standardization of online catalog retrieval systems is offered.

Abstract

This study is to investigate archival use behavior of history teachers in high schools. The study conducted 3 times interviews with high school history teachers and carried out a survey on recognition of archives, archival use, archival seeking behavior, and barrier factors for archival use to 30 teachers from the 2 local communities of history teachers. According to the survey, history teachers have used archives for raising the historical understanding by students in their classes. But the tight curriculums of history and the lack of time to search archives were barrier factors for teachers to use archives in their classes. The teachers who participated in this survey suggested that integrated DBs of archives in Korea and source books with commentaries need to promote use of archives in history classes

This study is to firstly investigate a definition and contents of library science in North Korea and then, based on it, to suggest subject provinces of library science in North Korea. Also, secondly it is to find out journal articles of related fields in library science among journals produced in Kim Il Sung University and to analyze the research contents, characteristics, and research trends of library science in North Korea.

Abstract

Information inquiries asked of the ‘Librarian's Community' will reveal the real problems and interests of the university libraries. This paper intends to find out in what areas the university libraries have most problems and interests and how serious they are by analyzing the contents of inquires. To identify the issues, the works in the university libraries including acquisition, cataloging, reference services, library automation and interlibrary loan were analyzed. This research also tries to identify if the issues need to be handled by the legal or solved by individual libraries.

As country try expand R&D investment and enhance its efficiency to improve the national competitiveness, research is needed to conduct qualitative enhancement and derive progressive future strategy in relation to the academic information distribution project in scientific technology field. In this study, BSC-based performance indicators were applied to an institute that is the representative of domestic academic information distribution institutes in the field of scientific technology to evaluate project performance, and then to analyze portfolio of using such evaluation results. As for the items of evaluation for the performance indicators of academic information distribution project in the scientific technology field, 12 items that includes information resource quality, information service quality, user satisfaction and economically useful value of academic information from four(4) viewpoints such as information resource, information service, user and economic viewpoints. In the portfolio analysis, it was conducted by performance indicators and by elements of the individual performance indicators as well. Based on the results of performance evaluation and portfolio analysis, the improvement method by viewpoints on academic information distribution project of an institute was suggested.

Abstract

This study examines the design and utilization of video storyboard surrogates in the digital video libraries. To do this, first we constructed the arrangement model of key-frames for storyboard based on the FRBR model, image communication and PRECIS indexing theories and evaluated the model using 6 sample videos and 26 participants. The study results show that the video storyboard surrogates based on the arrangement model has a higher accuracy value in terms of summary extraction than that of the sequential video storyboard. Moreover, watching both types of video storyboard one after another, especially browsing the sequential video storyboard first and then the arrangement model-based one, produces a remarkable increase in accuracy value of summary extraction. The study proposes two methods of utilizing the video storyboard surrogates in the digital video libraries: Designing a video browsing interface where users can use the sequential storyboard as a default and then the arrangement model-based one for re-watching; and utilizing the arrangement model-based storyboard as structured match sources of image-based queries.

This study aims to investigate and analyse the present of state and matters of technical services outsourcing in academic libraries. For the purpose summarized methods for outsourcing from reports and papers, suggested principal outline of outsourcing and developed quality control program of catalog. This study also surveyed several academic libraries in outsourcing and analyzed features and related issues of the operation of outsourcing. The results of this study can be refereed to the plan and implementation of technical services outsourcing in the future.
