Want and Longing, Whang, Soon-Won's The Swam

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the whang, Soon-Won's first works The Swam with the critical mind that motherhood can be clarified the intrinsic attribute of his literature. Through The Swam, Whang, Soon-Won delineates closely various aspects of human's life suffering from want of motherhood. The characters appeared in 13 works of collected on this works are always sick in mind and body, and love they are making unbalanced and distorted. If we try to clear up the cause, there is always malformed relation with motherhood. So, in Whang, Woon-Won's novels, love is closely connected with motherhood, this is a specific character of Whang's literature. Besides, the mothers appeared on The Swam are not affectionate but devilish lost her motherhood and the world living together with these mothers outrages and ugly images. However the author's aim of putting up the front these negative image, can be regarded as expressing deeply longing for mother with absolute beauty, In the long run, through this works, Whang, Soon-Won is very emphatic that wrapping oneself in motherhood is the only way to protect intrinsic value of human from absurd world.
