신체 불만족, 체중에 대한 걱정, 섭식절제 등은 섭식장애 위험요인들로 알려져 있는데, 여아의 섭식장애 위험요인들에 있어 어머니 자신의 섭식장애 위험요인들 수준 및 관여가 어떠한 관련성을 갖는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 480쌍의 초등학교 5, 6학년 여학생 모녀를 대상으로 각각의 신체불만족 수준, 섭식절제 수준, 체중에 대한 걱정 수준 및 아동의 체중에 대한 어머니의 관여, 아동이 지각하는 자신의 체중에 대한 어머니의 관여를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 여아의 섭식장애 위험요인들 수준과 어머니의 섭식장애 위험요인들 수준 및 어머니의 관여 수준 모두 정적 관련성을 가지고 있었는데, 어머니의 관여수준이 여아의 섭식장애 위험요인들을 더 잘 설명하였다. 특히, 어머니가 보고하는 관여 수준보다 여아가 지각하는 어머니의 관여수준이 높을수록 여아의 신체불만족, 체중에 대한 걱정, 섭식절제 수준이 더욱 높았다.
Body dissatisfaction, weight concerns, and restrained eating which are well-known risk factors for eating disorders are more prevalent among girls. Many researchers have agreed that mother has an important role in accounts of the daughter's eating problems. This study was to examine how maternal modelling and concern with girl's weight related with risk factors for eating disorders. Participants were 480 5th and 6th grade of elementary school girls and their mothers. The result showed both maternal modelling and concern with girl's weight were significantly correlated with girl's risk factors for eating disorders and the most powerful variable to predict every rick factors of girl's was consistently the perception of concern of girl's and the mother's weight concern was the next.
